On Your Doorstep

I wish I had explored more when I lived at home, with the Pennines on the doorstep and the Lake District just an hour away I find myself wishing myself back home on a number of occasions!

It is easy to forget and appreciate what is right on our doorsteps and the website Visit Woods is a great place to start finding out where there is a local woods near to you.

Happy searching and enjoy your local woods!

Swinley Forest

Well the sun was shining this morning, so up we got and off we went to Swinley Forest in Bracknell to meet some friends for the kids to have a bike ride, a play on the playground and then into the Look Out Discovery Center to warm up!

If you haven’t been to Swinley Forest then it really is a must, if you play your cards right you can spend the whole day there. It has some great tracks for riding bikes, walking or running. You can also hire cycles, bike trailers etc – so there is no excuse! If you want a bit more adventure they also have GO APE there along with the segways, ones for when the boys are older!

If you have little ones, then balance bikes are fab and give them some independance, plus it means you can go for a walk at a reasonable speed! Bobbles is a whizz on his now and can be quite hard to keep up with when he’s on a mission. We bought him the Ridgeback Scoot as it has a brake on it – all important when they are heading down the hill!

For Beanie we have the supurb Babyjogger Performace – so ok it hasn’t been used much for jogging with but it has proved invaluable when walking in forests etc So easy to push over rough terrain, it is definetley worth investing in if you are intending to head outdoors and even more so if you are going to go out running.

We continued with our hot picninc theme by calling into the supermarket and buying a hot chicken and some rolls. For someone who hasn’t been eating much recently it got demolished pretty quickly along with the mini flapjacks!

A New Year!

A new year always brings in new resolutions and mine is to start the outdoor adventure with my 2 children who are 3 years old and 9 months respectively.

So off we went to enjoy a very wet day at Mudeford beach – great with kids as they can still splash in the sea and it really doesn’t matter how wet they get as long as you have some dry clothing to change into for the journey home!

We had hot dogs for our picnic which where very well received by all when the rain started to come down (about 10  mins after we arrived!)

We also managed to find a stone that was a whale shape – so watch out for a photo of our creation.

In then end we managed to stay out for 3 hours – all in the rain and it went so quickly. So it just goes to show you can get out whatever the weather.
